Product Introduction:
Misoprostol, sold under the brandnameCytotec among others, is a medicationused to start labor, cause an abortion, prevent and treat stomach ulcers, and treat postpartum bleeding due to poor contraction of the uterus.For abortions it is often used withmifepristone or methotrexate.By itself effectiveness for this purpose is between 66% and 90%.It is taken either by mouth, under the tongue, or placed in the vagina.

Misoprostol is a prostaglandin. It works by reducing the amount of acid released by the stomach and protecting the stomach lining, which helps to reduce the risk of stomach ulcers.

Misoprostol is used to prevent stomach ulcers while you take NSAIDs (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen), especially if you are at risk for developing ulcers or have a history of ulcers. Misoprostol helps to decrease your risk of serious ulcer complications such as bleeding. This medication protects your stomach lining by lowering the amount of acid that comes in contact with it.
