| Introduction: PolyMethylsilsesquioxane, a silicone ingredient used in many skin, hair and cosmetic formulations, is most commonly used as a film former, forming a silky layer, according to Marshall Brain, founder of the website How Stuff Works. Slippery feel, increases skin and hair's water repellency. It is a "spherical, fine-grained silicone resin" composed of many tiny particles that are easily and evenly distributed in the formulation. In a study conducted by a cosmetics research and development company, polymethylsilsesquioxane particles, which can be as small as 10 microns, impart anti-caking and slippery properties to hair skin, in addition to lubricity and water repellency. |
