Benzyl benzoate is a colorless or pale yellow viscous transparent liquid in the standard conditions. In the following 17 , it becomes white. Benzyl benzoate of high-purity would have faint scent of flowers under long-term storage.

In winter, because of being solid, the package of benzyl benzoate may be placed firstly in hot air chamber (35-70 ) or warm water (40-90 ) for water bath, and then it can be used after melting.

1. Use as solvent and deodorant, also used in spice preparation 
2. It is used as a solvent of musk, as a deodorant of essence and as a substitute for camphor. It is also used in the preparation of whooping cough medicine and asthma medicin
3. It is a good deodorant, diluent or solvent in perfume, especially in flower perfume. It can be used as a modifier in heavy floral and Oriental fragrances as well as in tuberose, ylang ylang, lilac and gardenia fragrances. It is also a stabilizer for high carbon aldehydes or alcohols and is a good solvent for some solid flavors. In the edible essence formula also commonly used as a fixed incense.
4. Use GB 2760-1996 provides for permitted use of edible spices. Used as a deodorant. Mainly used in the preparation of plum, cherry and other berry flavor.
5. It can be used as plasticizer for cellulose, varnish and PVC. It can also be used as substitute for musk and camphor.
